This workshop explores the Living Forces Debate—a key controversy in early modern philosophy of nature—highlighting contributions by Descartes, Leibniz, Du Châtelet, and Kant. Special focus will be placed on Émilie Du Châtelet’s Institutions de Physique, in which she critically assessed Newtonian and Leibnizian physics and helped pave the way for the concept of kinetic energy.
