The International Conference “Voices from Ukraine: Women Philosophers and Scientists Against War and Ecocide” was held from October 27th to 28th, 2023, at the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, Paderborn University, Germany. Organized in cooperation between Prof. Dr. Kateryna Karpenko, Director of the Center for Gender Education at Kharkiv National Medical University (KHNMU), and Prof. Dr. Ruth Edith Hagengruber, Director of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, the conference tackled the intertwined issues of patriarchal violence, war, and ecocide. In the long tradition of women philosophers who have critically examined the destruction of nature, the event scrutinized how ecological devastation in warfare often parallels the violent abuse of women.
Prof. Dr. Tetiana Gardashuk, a leading scientific researcher and Head of the Department of Logic and Methodology of Science at the H. Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, delivered her lecture on The Feministic Dimension of Ecocide and Women’s Role in Environmental. In her talk, she examines how, in the long tradition of women philosophers, the destruction of nature has been a central theme—often intertwined with the violent abuse of women during warfare.
We are excited to announce that her lecture is now available on YouTube.
