Coming soon: New Voices Talk Series – Women’s Ideas in the History of Medicine

Fertility, Maternity, Reproduction: Women’s Ideas in the History of Medicine – New Voices Talk Series 2025

The New Voices Talk Series 2025, organized by Dr. Jil Muller, Deputy of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, in collaboration with Dr. Fabrizio Bigotti, director of the Center for the Study of Medicine and the Body in the Renaissance, explores the crucial contributions of women to medical knowledge throughout history.

This year’s series, titled Fertility, Maternity, Reproduction: Women’s Ideas in the History of Medicine, will feature distinguished scholars discussing how women have shaped medical practices, from Late Antiquity to the Renaissance and beyond. Covering topics such as ancient gynecology, early Islamic medical texts, the role of midwives, and poetic depictions of reproductive experiences, the talks provide a comprehensive insight into the intersection of gender and medical history.

The series kicks off on March 19, 2025, with a lecture by Irene Cala, who will discuss the role of Aspasia and other women in the medical traditions of Late Antiquity. Subsequent talks will feature Anna Gili, Shannon McHugh, Karine Durin, Viktorya Vasilyan, and Martina Guzzetti. Each session will be held online, making this an accessible opportunity for anyone interested. Further program deteils can be found here.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Please register here and you will get the Zoom-Link after registration.
