For Ruth E. Hagengruber, Director of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, it was a reunion – if only for a photo. Svenja Schulze, the Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, is present as Gayatri Siani welcomes Professor Hagengruber!
FES India has long been a key player in promoting initiatives that aim to bridge the gap between academic discourse and societal impact, particularly in areas such as gender equality, sustainability and the role of technology in shaping a just future. This event will look at the connections between economics, ecology and technology and highlight the contributions of women philosophers in these areas.
Svenja Schulze, has been serving as Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development since December 2021. Her political career includes significant contributions at both federal and state levels, particularly in North Rhine-Westphalia, where she served as Minister for Innovation, Science, and Research from 2010 to 2017. In 2016, during her tenure as North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister for Science and Innovation, Schulze played a pivotal role in establishing the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists at Paderborn University. She supported the center with a funding of 1.3 million euros, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and researching the contributions of women in philosophy and science.
