After her teaching role in the seminar on Edith Stein’s “Finite and Eternal Being“ in 2023, Dr. Mette Lebech returns this year to co-lead the block seminar “Husserl and Stein on Psyche and Person” together with Dr. Henning Peucker (University of Paderborn). She holds degrees from the Universities of Copenhagen, Louvain-la-Neuve, and Leuven. Dr. Lebech has taught at Maynooth University since 1998 and previously spent three years at the University of Copenhagen, where she was also a member of the Centre for Ethics and Law. Her research primarily focuses on the themes of Human Dignity and the Philosophy of Edith Stein. She is the past founding President of the International Association for the Study of the Philosophy of Edith Stein (IASPES) and Editor of Edith Stein Studies, a book series with Rowman and Littlefield. As part of her research, Dr. Lebech has published several works on Edith Stein, including The Philosophy of Edith Stein: From Phenomenology to Metaphysics (2015, Peter Lang).
We are pleased to welcome the return of our long-time Fellow Dr. Mette Lebech, who, among other achievements, organized the conference “Stein’s and Husserl’s Intertwined Itineraries 1916-25“ in 2021 in collaboration with the Center. She has also discussed Edith Stein in our Conversations with Diotima series:
