Talk | 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM | Physikalischer Verein
In the library archive of the Göttingen University, there is a manuscript on the lecture of the famous mathematician David Hilbert, titled “Statistical Mechanics” (1914), elaborated by Luise Lange (1891-1987). Her name can not be found in dictionaries, biographies, bibliographies, on the Internet, or in the list of German mathematicians and physicists.
Andrea Reichenberger will report on her discovery of a remarkable woman and scientist. She follows Luise Lang’s path through Göttingen to New York and Chicago, from the revolutionary upheavals in physics in the early 20th century to the exciting collaboration between American and Russian mathematicians during the Cold War. Dr. Andrea Reichenberger is a science historian and philosopher of the Paderborn University’s Center for the “History of Women Philosophers and Scientists”.
