New Voices: Dr. Giulia Felappi on Margaret MacDonald’s logical necessity

Have you heard about our winter term talk series?

The Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists is pleased to invite you to an exciting talk as part of the event Women in the History of Analytic Philosophy and Philosophy of Science:

Date: February 5
Time: 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM via Zoom
Speaker: Dr. Giulia Felappi (University of Southampton)

“There is no reason for the necessity of the ultimate principles of deduction.” Margaret MacDonald on Logical Necessity

In this talk, Dr. Giulia Felappi will explore the philosophy of Margaret MacDonald, focusing on her reflections on the necessity of logic—an idea that runs throughout her work. The discussion will highlight both MacDonald’s negative views on what logical necessity is not and her positive account of what it is, arguing that asking for a justification of logic’s necessity is irrational. Dr. Felappi will conclude by examining how MacDonald’s stance differs from contemporary views, such as dialetheism and paraconsistent logics.

A must-attend event for anyone interested in the history of analytic philosophy and philosophy of science! Join for an engaging discussion!
