The Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists shaped 2024 with a series of inspiring events celebrating the legacy and contributions of women philosophers worldwide. Through innovative programs and interdisciplinary collaborations, the Center once again set new standards in reshaping the philosophical canon. Here’s a look back at the highlights of this remarkable year:

January to February: 1000 Places in 1 World
The year began with the 1000 Places in 1 World seminar series, held from January 9 to February 6. These intercontinental New Voices seminars focused on the often-overlooked roles of women in global history and amplified voices from diverse cultural perspectives.

A Vibrant Spring Mix
The Research Colloquium (May 6 – July 22) provided an in-depth exploration of Émilie Du Châtelet’s work, whose innovative scientific methodology was further examined during an international online conference on May 23–24. Parallel to this, the New Voices Summer 2024 series (May 8 – July 10) focused on women’s ideas in the history of medicine, covering topics such as food, healing plants, and medical practices. A workshop later in May highlighted Hedwig Conrad-Martius and her contributions to phenomenology, ontology, and metaphysics, enriching the ongoing discussions about women in philosophy.

Summer Time: June and July
The symposium Frauen. Denken. Europa. (Women. Thinking. Europe.) on June 28 at the Historical Town Hall in Paderborn examined women’s intellectual influence on European thought. The following day, the extended board meeting of the German Association of Women Academics took place. On July 25–26, a workshop titled Mind, Consciousness, and Perception in Cavendish focused on the philosophy of Margaret Cavendish, offering new insights into early modern perspectives on mind and consciousness.
