The Banaras Hindu University, the Indian Council of Social Science Research and the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists are organizing the conference β€œTracing Modes of Gendered Thinking: Ideation and Philosophy from the Global South” in cooperation with each other. This three-day event is dedicated to exploring gendered thought with a special focus on perspectives from the Global South.

Event Highlights:

Day 1 (December 4, 2024): Opening Ceremony and Keynote Panel
The conference kicks off with a formal welcome by esteemed representatives from Banaras Hindu University. The highlight of the day is the Keynote Panel, chaired by Prof. Krishna Menon, which brings together international perspectives on feminist discourses.

– Ms. V. Geetha, Independent Scholar, India
– Prof. Manisha Priyam, Sir Louis Matheson Distinguished Visiting Professor, NIEPA
– Cultural Performances: The day concludes with a mesmerizing tabla solo and an Indian classical guitar recital.

Day 2 (December 5, 2024): Thematic Panels
The second day dives into engaging discussions across thematic panels:
– Gender and the Public Sphere: Analyses of feminist movements and the interplay of love and politics in postcolonial contexts.
– Intersectional Feminist Epistemology: Insights into indigenous traditions, gender, and power structures.
– Knowledge Production in the Global South: Critical perspectives on epistemic silences and feminist critiques of knowledge hierarchies.

Day 3 (December 6, 2024): Forward-Thinking Discussions
The final day showcases panels on biographical and intellectual contributions of women, exploring their roles in literature, philosophy, and social transformation. The event concludes with a thought-provoking discussion on inclusive praxis, chaired by Prof. Ruth Hagengruber.
