are available in the project founded by the German Research Foundation DFG “Historical Critical Digital Edition of the handwritten version of Émilie Du Châtelet’s “Institutions de physique”. This position is limited for the period of two years, due to third-party funding, based on the German law “Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG)”. The time limit corresponds to the approved project period. Pending approval of the funding for a further funding phase of the project is possible and may
be continued within the time limits of the WissZeitVG.

Project description:
The internationally renowned research on Émilie du Châtelet at the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists will be continued with this project. Émilie Du Châtelet’s manuscripts of her main work “Institutions de physique” are to be critically and historically edited, commented and placed in the context of the Enlightenment, especially the German Enlightenment (Leibniz, Wolff).

Conditions of employment:
Applicants must have a thematically relevant and outstanding PhD or postdoctoral research expertise in philosophy, preferably with a focus on the 17th or 18th century. Knowledge in the field of Enlightenment research is indispensable as is experience in dealing with manuscripts. Previous knowledge of Emilie Du Châtelet’s works is of advantage.
The implementation of the research project requires the ability to cooperate and work in a team and the willingness to participate in the profiling and development of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists as well as to support its goals of promoting the history of women philosophers. Excellent knowledge of French and English is required. Experience in transcription and its digital representation is desirable. Applications from international colleagues are welcome.

2 Postdoc-Stellen (w/m/d)

im DFG-Projekt „Historisch-kritische digitale Edition der handschriftlichen Fassung von Émilie Du Châtelets Institutions de physique” im Umfang von 100 % der regelmäßigen Arbeitszeit zu besetzen. Es handelt sich um eine zunächst auf 2 Jahre aufgrund von Drittmittelfinanzierung im Sinne des Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetzes (WissZeitVG) befristete Tätigkeit. Die Befristungsdauer entspricht dem bewilligten Projektzeitraum. Vorbehaltlich der Bewilligung der Fördermittel für eine weitere Förderphase des Projekts ist eine
Fortführung der Tätigkeit innerhalb der Befristungsgrenzen des WissZeitVG möglich.

Projektbeschreibung und Aufgaben:
Die international beachteten Forschungen zu Émilie du Châtelet am Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists finden in diesem DFG-Projekt eine Fortführung. Émilie Du Châtelets Manuskripte ihres Hauptwerks „Institutions de physique“ sollen historisch-kritisch ediert, kommentiert und in den Kontext der Aufklärung, insbesondere der deutschen Aufklärung (Leibniz, Wolff), gestellt werden.

Einstellungsvoraussetzungen:
Vorausgesetzt wird ein thematisch einschlägige und herausragende Promotion in Philosophie, vorzugsweise mit philosophiehistorischem Schwerpunkt im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert.
Kenntnisse im Bereich der Aufklärungsforschung, editorische Erfahrung sowie Erfahrung im Umgang mit Handschriften sind unabdingbar. Vorkenntnisse zu Émilie Du Châtelet sind vorteilhaft. Die Durchführung des Forschungsprojektes setzt Kooperations- und Teamfähigkeit voraus und den Willen, an der Profilbildung und Entwicklung des Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists mitzuwirken und seine Ziele zur Förderung der Geschichte der Philosophinnen zu unterstützen. Herausragende Kenntnisse der französischen und englischen Sprache sind Bedingung. Erfahrungen im Umgang mit Transkriptionen und ihrer digitalen Darstellung sind erwünscht.
