Michael Walschots is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Milan and Assistant Principal Investigator on the ERC-funded project 18ETHICS: Ethics and Moral Life in the 18th Century, led by Prof. Stefano Bacin. Previously, he worked at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he was part of the project Rethinking Enlightenment: The Reception of John Locke in Germany, as well as a Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellow at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, where he worked on his book project Kant and the British Moralists. His research focuses on moral philosophy of the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly on meta-ethics, moral psychology, and practical reasoning. He also explores Kant, the British moralists, and the history of philosophy shaped by female thinkers—such as Johanna Charlotte Unzer, who is considered the first female German philosopher. Michael Walschots earned his PhD at Western University, Canada, with a dissertation on Enlightenment ethics. His current research continues to address pivotal questions in early modern philosophy and ethics.
