My research concerns the possibility of acquiring knowledge of the external and internal worlds by using all of our mental faculties and processes. According to Shepherd, such knowledge is possible, but we have to recognize that we cannot extricate ourselves, as subjects, from the way we understand the objects and events of the world. Any notion of objectivity must be cashed out at the level of inter-subjectivity. This is in line with contemporary research in philosophical psychology regarding perception, memory, and imagination. I became interested in Shepherd’s work as I learned of her astute criticism of Reid’s views. I am now primarily interested in understanding her views regarding the aforementioned issues.
