Keynote Title: Language and Knowledge in “Grammaire raisonnée” by Émilie Du Châtelet

Abstract: This paper highlights the relationship suggested by Émilie Du Châtelet regarding the disciplinary nexus between ontology, epistemology, and grammar. Using the “clues and fragments” method, I suggest a reconstruction of the “epistemological path” or the epistemology approach on mind and operations, by analyzing her treatment of mental operations—appercevoir, juger, and raisonner, that function as cornerstones of language.

PhD in Philosophy from the National Autonomous University of Mexico; BA and MA in Philosophy from Universidad Veracruzana. Founding member of the Latin American Network for Studies on Women Philosophers in History (ReLaFHi); Her research interests and publications focus on the history of modern philosophy, particularly on the intersections between metaphysics, epistemology, natural philosophy, and ethics in early modern thinkers.
