What were „the future shapes“ of the IAPh 2021?

Throwback IAPh 2021 - Defining the Future, Rethinking the Past

“In times of current crisis, the voices of women are needed more than ever. The accumulation of war and environmental catastrophes teaches us that exploitation of people and nature through violent appropriation and enrichment for the sake of short-term self-interest exacts its price. There can be no new perspective on the future if we do not reconsider the past.” (Hagengruber 2023, p. 5)

In July 2021, the XVIIIth Symposium of the International Association of Women Philosophers (IAPh) took place under the title Defining the Future, Rethinking the Past, hosted by the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists. The conference brought together international scholars to rethink key topics such as economics, technology, environmental ethics, and gender justice. At the same time, it remained true to the IAPh’s original mission: to make the voices of historical women philosophers visible and to reassess their contributions to the history of philosophy. The IAPh 2021 formed the basis for the anthology: Hagengruber, R. E. (Hrsg.). (2023). Women philosophers on economics, technology, environment, and gender history: Shaping the future, rethinking the past. De Gruyter.

We are looking forward to the upcoming IAPh 2025 in Tokyo!
