Thinking Europe Anew – 75 Years of the German Society for Philosophy

This year marks a special milestone: 75 years of the German Society for Philosophy (DGPhil).

Seventy-five years ago, Germany joined the Council of Europe – in the same year, the German Society for Philosophy was founded. We are celebrating this shared anniversary with our event “Thinking Europe Anew.” The Council of Europe’s guiding principles – the rule of law, human rights, and democracy – emerged from centuries of philosophical reflection and debate. The European idea, and the values it upholds, can only be fully understood in the context of this rich intellectual tradition. Marking the 75th anniversary of the German Society for Philosophy, our event invites us to revisit and rethink Europe’s philosophical heritage in light of today’s pressing global challenges.
