“I have been fighting for many years to ensure that women get the place in society that they deserve”[…] “It is important to raise awareness about women in the history of philosophy and thereby to revitalize the relevance of the philosophical discipline.” — Ulrike Detmers
As the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists prepares to celebrate its tenth anniversary this summer, we would like to express our gratitude to a person whose commitment has had a lasting impact on the international visibility of women philosophers: Prof. Dr. Ulrike Detmers.
Entrepreneur, scholar, advocate for gender equality, former Vice President of the Deutscher Akademikerinnenbund (DAB), and recipient of numerous distinctions, including the Federal Cross of Merit and the prestigious Goldener Zuckerhut, Ulrike Detmers has dedicated much of her professional life to promoting women’s achievements in business, academia, and society. Her work has consistently been guided by the conviction that women’s contributions deserve recognition, visibility, and lasting remembrance.
This conviction led her to establish and sponsor the Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize in 2018. Since then, the prize has been awarded annually in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Ruth E. Hagengruber, Director of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists. Named after the philosopher Elisabeth of Bohemia (1618–1680), the prize honors internationally recognized scholars whose work recovers, preserves, and advances the intellectual legacy of women philosophers.
We are therefore especially pleased that the Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize will once again be awarded during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Center!
