World Congress of Philosophy in Rome with the participation of the Centre for the History of Women in Philosophy and Science at the University of Paderborn

Beyond the Boundaries is the eloquent theme of the World Congress of Philosophy, which will be attended by 5000 representatives from all over the world. It is about global encounters, overcoming borders and getting to the heart of current problems,” says Ruth Hagengruber, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Paderborn. She has been invited to chair the thematic symposium dedicated to the history of women philosophers worldwide. It is the greatest possible honour to have been chosen for this. Women from Africa, Asia and America will present new approaches to a global philosophy. What is new is that this philosophy has been written by women”.

Prof. Hagengruber will be accompanied by members of the centre she directs, which, since its founding by Minister Svenja Schulze, has been dedicated to researching the history of women philosophers and has set itself the goal of renewing the old tradition of philosophy. But applied issues such as technology, economics and ecology are also at the heart of this new approach. The Ukrainian academic Katarina Karpenko, who has organised numerous conferences on ecocide in Ukraine at the University of Paderborn, will also speak. So Paderborn will be well represented. Like many small cities rich in tradition, Paderborn has thus secured a place on the world stage of philosophy as a city of philosophical reorientation.
