We are pleased to announce the publication of the edited volume Stein and Husserl’s Phenomenology of the Social in Ideas II, edited by Dr. Mette Lebech, long-time Fellow of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists (HWPS). The volume appears as Volume 25 of the Women in the History of Philosophy and Sciences series.
About the Book
This book presents a collection of articles, most of which stem from papers given at the conference Stein’s and Husserl’s Intertwined Itineraries 1916–25 with Focus on Ideas II, hosted online during COVID by the Centre for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, University of Paderborn, on 20–21 May 2021. The aim of the conference was to contribute towards clarifying the respective positions of Stein and Husserl concerning the relationship between person and intersubjectivity, with an emphasis on identifying the extent to which their respective positions inform Ideas II. This is discussed under four headings: (1) the text of Ideas II and the collaboration between Stein and Husserl; (2) intersubjectivity and social ontology; (3) the distinction between the adjacent positions of Husserl and Stein; and (4) the possibility of combining transcendental intersubjectivity with philosophical anthropology.

About the Editor
Dr. Mette Lebech is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Maynooth University, Ireland, where she has taught since 1998. Her research focuses on human dignity, phenomenology, and the philosophy of Edith Stein. She is the founding President of the International Association for the Study of the Philosophy of Edith Stein (IASPES) and serves as Series Editor of Edith Stein Studies.
A long-time Fellow of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, Dr. Lebech has collaborated extensively with the Center over the years. She organized the international conference Stein’s and Husserl’s Intertwined Itineraries 1916–25 together with the Center in 2021, from which many of the contributions to this volume emerged. She has also been a recurring guest lecturer at the University of Paderborn, most recently co-leading the block seminar Husserl and Stein on Psyche and Person with Dr. Henning Peucker.
