Seminar: “Early Phenomenology”

 

November 2nd, 3rd and 6th, 10:00 AM to 6PM

The seminar will provide an introduction to early phenomenology, specifically the relationship between reality and consciousness and the givenness of reality, as well as an appraisal of early phenomenology in light of recent transcendental theories of consciousnss, such as the critique of correlationism of Quentin Meillassoux. The seminar will also provide an overview of the idea of essence intuiton as an investigation of the structures of reality using the phenomenological method. The structure is as follows:

Day 1 (2nd of November): Introduction, discussion of Max Scheler’s “Idealismus-Realismus”

Day 2 (3rd of November): Discussion of Hedwig Conrad-Martius’ “Realontologie” and Quentin Meillassoux’s “After Finitude”

Day 3 (6th of November): Discussion of Adolf Reinach’s “Über Phänomenologie”

In-person visitors are welcome and are asked to register at phenomenology@historyofwomenphilosophers.org.

Hans Rainer Sepp is the author of “Bild. Phänomenologie der Epoché I” (2012, Königshausen & Neumann).

The seminar language will be German.
