FISP 2024 IAPH Society Talk: Women Philosophers in Academia: Achievements, Obstacles and Challenges

Ruth Hagengruber has been actively involved with the International Association of Women Philosophers (IAPh), contributing through her scholarly work and organizational roles. She is elected secretary of the IAPh since 2021.

As a prominent figure, she has delivered numerous talks and organized various workshops at IAPh events.

One of her talks was during the IAPh 2021 conference, where she discussed “The Third Knowledge Dimension: How AI Changes Our Epistemology.” In this presentation, she explored how artificial intelligence impacts our understanding of knowledge and epistemology, advocating for the reorganization of our ontological frameworks to accommodate new methods of knowledge aggregation and collective intelligence. Hagengruber participated in the IAPh 2023 in Buenos Aires workshop titled “Feminism and Philosophy: New and Old Questions,” where she addressed the historical exclusion of women philosophers and the emergence of a new philosophy. Her talk, “Why Women Philosophers Were Excluded: The History of Women Philosophers and the New Philosophy,”examined the historical and contemporary challenges faced by women in philosophy and proposed ways to integrate their contributions into mainstream philosophical discourse.

These activities underscore Hagengruber’s commitment to advancing the visibility and recognition of women philosophers, both historically and in contemporary contexts and on behalf of the IAPH. Her work with IAPh continues to foster a more inclusive and comprehensive understanding of philosophical traditions and contributions.
