Prof. Dr. Inken Schmidt-Voges is a member of the board of the Center for Gender Studies and Feminist Future Research since 2020. Her expertise spans a wide array of topics, including the political culture and communication of early modern Europe, gender history, and historical peace and security research. Her work explores themes such as households and family structures in early modern Europe, cultural contacts and transfer processes, and the complex dynamics of Northern, Northwestern, and Central Europe during this period.
Sina Menke earned her Master’s Degree at the University College London in 2019 and is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Marburg. Her research focuses on utopian literature, particularly works written by women, as a way to critique societal norms and reflect on gender hierarchies in the early modern period. She argues that women’s utopias, such as Christine de Pizan’s La Cité des Dames and Margaret Cavendish’s The Blazing World, should not be dismissed as mere theological treatises or romances but recognized as fully-fledged utopian works. Menke’s work highlights the historical and philosophical significance of these texts, offering new insights into their critical and reflective nature.
