The Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists (directed by Prof. Dr. Ruth Edith Hagengruber) at Paderborn University is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) in the DFG-funded project Historical Critical Digital Edition of the handwritten version of Émilie Du Châtelet’s Institutions de physique.
The position (TV-L 13) is to start on or after August 1, 2025. It is available either for 12 months at 100% or for 24 months at 50%, depending on the applicant’s preference and project needs. A continuation of the position in a future project phase is pending funding approval.
Project Scope
This project represents the third funding phase of the internationally acclaimed Du Châtelet edition project. The focus is on preparing the online edition and supporting its critical and historical commentary. The role requires in-depth engagement with Enlightenment-era philosophy and science.
Eligibility Requirements
A completed PhD in philosophy with a research focus in early modern philosophy
Demonstrated expertise in Enlightenment thought, particularly French philosophy and science
Experience working with historical manuscripts
Proficiency in both French and English
Familiarity with the works of Émilie Du Châtelet is an advantage
Experience with digital text editing is welcome, though not required
Willingness to contribute actively to the scholarly and institutional profile of the Center
