The Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists warmly invites to its Libori Summer School 2025 (all students, all stages). It offers an in-depth engagement with Du Châtelet’s early philosophical writings, in expert-led sessions.

Summer School Preliminary Program:

• Monday, 8 September 2025: The nature of liberty and free will: Chapter 5 On Liberty
• Tuesday, 9 September 2025: Enlightenment perspectives on ethics and moral theory: Commentary on Mandeville’s Fable of the Bees
• Wednesday, 10 September 2025: The foundations of natural philosophy: Chapter 4 On the Formation of Colours
• Thursday, 11 September 2025: On language and ontology: Chapter 6 On Grammar
• Friday, 12 September 2025: On metaphyscis, eternity, immortality of the soul and an eteranl being: Treatise on Metaphysics

Participation is possible both in-person and in a hybrid format; however, ECTS credits can only be awarded for on-site participation.

The following documents are required:

• A current CV (maximum 1 page)

• An analytical paper (approx. 1,000 words) on at least one of the key topics of the week:

  • Liberty (On Liberty)

  • Ethics (Commentary on Mandeville’s Fable of the Bees)

  • Natural Philosophy (On the Formation of Colours)

  • Philosophy of Language (On Grammar)

  • Metaphysics (Treatise on Metaphysics)

The submitted paper will serve as the basis for the student sessions during the Summer School.
