Call for Abstracts – Émilie Du Châtelet in Relation to Leibniz and Wolff – Similarities and Differences

From the 28th – 30th of September 2022 we will host a DFG funded conference “Émilie Du Châtelet in Relation to Leibniz and Wolff – Similarities and Differences” at the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists. Confirmed keynote speakers are Katherine Brading (Duke University) and Anne-Lise Rey (Paris Nanterre), and the welcome speaker is Mercator Fellow Jeffrey McDonough (Harvard University). We are inviting abstracts exploring any aspect of Du Châtelet’s work especially in relation to Leibniz and Wolff for presentation at the conference. Graduate students, early career scholars and women scholars are especially encouraged to submit. Presentations can be held in English or German. Please send your abstract (500 words max) prepared for blind review and a separate title page with your personal details, including your best contact email address, to contact@historyofwomenphilosophers.org by the 31st of July 2022. You can expect to hear back from us by August 15th.

The conference is part of a DFG funded research project dedicated to exploring Émilie Du Châtelet’s relation to Leibniz and Wolff. As part of the project, Jeffrey McDonough and Clara Carus will prepare an edited volume on the project theme. There is a separate call for papers for publication in the volume. Double submissions (abstract to the conference and paper for publication) are possible and encouraged. Please find the call for papers here.

We are looking forward to your submissions.

With best wishes,

Clara Carus, University of Paderborn & Center for the History of Women Philosophers
Jeff McDonough, Harvard University
Ruth Hagengruber, University of Paderborn & Center for the History of Women Philosophers
