Judith Jarvis Thomson was an American Philosopher, best known for her work on ethics and metaphysics. She was a faculty member at MIT for 40 years and remained active in philosophy at MIT after retiring in 2004. With her article A defence of abortion (1971), she transformed the philosophical discussion of abortion. She was also known for her work regarding the thought experiment titled The trolley problem (1976). Her Work rages across a variety of fields, such as moral philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of action, philosophy of mind, philosophy of science and philosophy of language.
