
Femmes et Philosophie dans le Monde Ancien

With its six conferences , this workshop will examine various topics dealing with women and ancient philosophy. In particular, the audience will have the possibility to learn about women of the Pythagorean School, discover the character of Hypatia of Alexandria, and find out the status of women in Aristotle. Several attention will be given to sources, with a focus on the problem of their reconstruction. The last two talks will respectively concern the role of women in Philo’s work, and the function of priestesses in Greek philosophical literature.
