The Journal of the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists (JHWPS) is pleased to invite submissions for a special issue spotlighting the remarkable contributions of Latin American women philosophers and other intellectuals amidst the backdrop of profound social transformation spanning the 16th to the 20th centuries. This edition aims to illuminate the multifaceted methodologies and distinctive writing styles employed by these thinkers, which are intricately woven with their engagements in intersectional, decolonial, feminist, and ethical discourses.
The works of Latin American women philosophers as well as theorists from related disciplines stand as a testament to the rich scenario of philosophical inquiry emerging from their diverse cultural, historical, and political contexts. Their scholarship not only offers penetrating insights into enduring philosophical questions but also serves as a potent catalyst for interrogating and reshaping dominant paradigms within the field. They have emerged as pioneers in fostering critical dialogues surrounding human nature, gender equality, social justice, and the universalization of political rights and access to education. Their perspectives, informed by the complexities of their lived experiences, bring forth profound reflections on the intricacies of gender dynamics and the relentless pursuit of equality in societies marked by colonial legacies and struggles for autonomy.
By exploring the methodological innovations and distinct narrative styles embraced by Latin American women intellectuals, this special issue seeks to unveil the nuanced ways in which they navigate philosophical inquiry amidst the complexities of their social and historical contexts. It invites scholars to delve into the rich intellectual legacies of these thinkers, highlighting their enduring relevance in contemporary philosophical discourses. We aim to amplify their voices and deepen our understanding of their philosophical perspectives.
