Annie Besant and the Idea of True Freedom by Priyanka Jha

We are excited to share the latest video by our long-standing cooperation partner Priyanka Jha:
Annie Besant and the Idea of True Freedom – Episode 01 of the new AIDEM series. In this talk, Priyanka Jha explores how Annie Besant conceptualizes freedom through emancipation, self-esteem, and ethical self-formation, situating women’s political thought from Modern India within a global intellectual history. You find the Video here: https://youtu.be/NJYkJKkyG8w?si=dHrPYfNpt8UFluC1

Dr. Jha is Assistant Professor at Banaras Hindu University (India) and works at the intersection of political theory, intellectual history, and gender studies, with a regional focus on Modern India and South Asia. As part of her visiting fellowship at the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists (January–February 2024), she contributed lectures, colloquia, and international formats on women thinkers from India and South Asia. So she is Guest Editor (with Dr. Bindu K. C.) of the Brill journal Volume 3 Thinking the World through Gender: Indian and South Asian Women Philosophers and Thinkers in our Journal of the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists.
