A Platform for Students

From September 8–12, 2025, the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists (Faculty of Philosophy, Paderborn University) invites students and scholars from around the world to join the Libori Summer School 2025, dedicated to the early works of Émilie Du Châtelet. (Participation possible both on-site and hybrid)

This year’s program offers a unique opportunity: participants will work directly with the first digital and historical-critical edition of Du Châtelet’s early manuscripts. These texts – including her commentary on Mandeville as well as her reflections on liberty, grammar, natural philosophy, and metaphysics – are available in full English translation.

The Summer School is designed as a collaborative space for learning and exchange. Each day begins with an introduction and a student session, where participants present and discuss their own analyses of Du Châtelet’s texts. In the afternoons, leading experts will expand on these discussions with keynote lectures.

Students are warmly invited to apply by submitting:

  • a one-page CV
  • a 1,000-word analysis on one of the following topics: Liberty / Mandeville / Colours / Grammar / Metaphysics

📩 Applications should be sent to: contact@historyofwomenphilosophers.org
🗓 Deadline:
August 30, 2025 (Last minute, but it will definitely be worth it!)
