A rainy afternoon in Tokyo – Prof. Dr. Ruth Edith Hagengruber, General Secretary of the IAPh and President of the German Society for Philosophy, and Prof. Dr. Heisook Kim, President of the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Philosophiques (FISP), stand together under an umbrella.
Prof. Dr. Heisook Kim is one of the invited speakers at IAPh 2025. After attending the Opening Ceremony yesterday, she will deliver Keynote 2 today, chaired by Prof. Dr. Noburu Notomi (University of Tokyo).
A professor of philosophy at Ewha Womans University in Seoul since 1987, Kim served as the university’s president from 2017 to 2021 – the first to be elected through a democratic vote by students, faculty, and alumni. She previously earned her doctorate in epistemology at the University of Chicago.
Her research areas range from epistemology and feminist philosophy to methodology and philosophy of art. Alongside her academic work, Heisook Kim has held numerous leadership roles, including serving as President of the Korean Philosophical Association, the Korean Association of Feminist Philosophy, and the Korean Analytic Philosophy Association.
