This is precisely what the past laureates of the Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize have done: They uncovered forgotten voices, reconstructed intellectual lineages, and challenged the male-dominated canon of philosophy. The Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize, donated by Prof. Dr. Ulrike Detmers and awarded annually in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Ruth Edith Hagengruber, Director of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, honors internationally recognized scholars whose work revives and preserves the memory of women philosophers throughout history.
In previous years, the Elisabeth of Bohemia Prize has honored several outstanding scholars:
2023: Laura Aurora Benítez Grobet (UNAM), for her pioneering work on Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz as a philosopher.
2022: Sarah Hutton (University of York), renowned for her research on early modern women philosophers such as Anne Conway and Margaret Cavendish.
2021: Mitieli Seixas da Silva (Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil), for her work on Émilie du Châtelet and the history of women philosophers in Brazil.
2019: Mary Ellen Waithe (Cleveland State University), for her groundbreaking book series A History of Women Philosophers.
2018: Lisa Shapiro (Simon Fraser University), for her scholarship on Elisabeth of Bohemia and other early modern women thinkers.
