The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Institute of Human Sciences in the subject of Philosophy, is offering a full-time PhD position (100% regular working time), starting as soon as possible. This opportunity is an ideal fit for candidates passionate about early modern philosophy and women philosophers of the 16th to 18th centuries.
Position Type: Full-time, initially fixed to one year under the “Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz” (WissZeitVG).
Research Focus: Development of a dissertation in the field of research into the texts of women philosophers of the early modern period, exploring themes like:
Human beings as total entities (body, mind, and union).
Humans in their natural and environmental context.
Humans as “suffering beings” (e.g., diseases, melancholy).
Humans as “self-healing beings” (e.g., self-knowledge, passions).
Humans as social and political beings (e.g., friendship, power, responsibility).
Responsibilities:
Teaching commitment of 4 semester hours per week.
Active participation in Dr. Jil Muller’s research and the affiliated HWPS Centre for Research into the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists.
Development of a dissertation topic aligned with the outlined research areas.
Requirements:
Excellent academic degree (Master) in philosophy.
Demonstrated expertise in early modern philosophy (e.g., master’s thesis topic).
Proficiency in English (additional European languages like French, Spanish, or Italian are advantageous).
Independent working style and interdisciplinary experience.
