I read and write widely on British philosophy of the seventeenth and eighteenth century, as well as other figures from early modern Europe and the nineteenth century United States. My research and my teaching reflect a commitment to uncovering and encouraging discussion of the diversity of early modern philosophical work, including currently under-discussed figures such as Anne Conway, Mary Astell, Elizabeth Montagu, and Maria W. Stewart. Much of my work examines the interplay of metaphysics and methodology and the metaphysical support for ethical, political, aesthetic, and theological views. I have a secondary research track that merges philosophy and media studies.
