Époque Émilienne published!

Époque Émilienne – Philosophy and Science: a 30 paper volume on Émilie Du Châtelet from the outside perspective is finally available!

“I am my own person and only responsible to myself for everything I am, what I say, and what I do. There may be metaphysicians and philosophers whose knowledge is greater than mine. I haven’t met them yet. But even they are only weak human beings with faults, and when I count my gifts, I think I may say that I am inferior to none” – Émilie Du Châtelet in her Letter to Frederick the Great, 1740.

In April 2017, the third international and interdisciplinary conference Époque Émilienne – Philosophie und Wissenschaft 1700-1750, in honor of the French philosopher and scientist Émilie Du Châtelet, was organized by Prof. Dr. Ruth Hagengruber and Dr. Andrea Reichenberger (Paderborn University, Germany) of the Center for the History of Women Philosophers and Scientists, in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für französischsprachige Philosophie e.V. The conference volume including 30 contributions is now available and answers questions on Émilie Du Châtelet and how she was received in her time.
